Inclusive and Accessible Passenger Information System Project

The infrastructure manager and main operator of Switzerland’s rail network partnered with GDS to modernize passenger information across its rail network. The goal was to create a next‑generation system capable of delivering clear, real‑time travel information while ensuring full accessibility for passengers with diverse mobility, sensory, and cognitive needs.

With millions of travelers using the network every day, it sought a scalable digital infrastructure that would support inclusive mobility, align with European accessibility standards, and enhance the passenger experience across stations of all sizes.

GDS developed an integrated ecosystem of Smart Interface Displays (SID) and Acoustic Boxes designed to provide visual, tactile, and auditory information through a unified platform. These systems deliver real‑time multilingual travel updates, intuitive navigation support, and accessible interaction tools.

The Smart Interface Display combines high‑contrast screens, touchscreen interaction, and haptic feedback with integrated camera, audio, NFC, and connectivity features. Acoustic Boxes complement the visual displays by providing spoken travel information activated via a Braille‑marked pushbutton.

Together, these solutions create an inclusive passenger information environment that allows travelers to access critical journey information independently and confidently.
